KitMapper - equipment rental network dedicated to creatives

1.png

We recently came across KitMapper when we were urgently needed to hire a second Canon EF 24–70mm F2.8 for a job we had on a couple of weeks ago. Although we own a good amount of kit (some of it listed on KitMapper now), we find that there are niche pieces of photographic or AV gear which we require, but not often so it's not cost-effective to invest into kit we may only be using for a job or two, this is why KitMapper is extremely handy.

If you’re a creative needing for kit for a show, event or exhibition KitMapper will provide you with the equipment you need to make it happen.

Screen Shot 2017-09-29 at 14.39.38.png

Launched in London, KitMapper, the UK’s first equipment rental network dedicated to creatives, has become an important tool for professionals and amateurs needing short-term rentals of creative gear — such as cameras, lenses, lighting, projectors, monitors and TVs, sound recording, VR kit and much more. How often do creative professionals find themselves priced out of the equipment market? Too often.

The service allows professional creatives who own kit to loan it to users who are looking to hire kit, the prices for hires are set by users with the recommended price of 30-50 percent less compared to rental houses. KitMapper is not only unique in the fact that it is a platform for you to network and borrow from like-minded individuals, both Lister and Renter using KitMapper are covered by their KitMapper Guarantee, a legal rental agreement which makes sure you’re covered should anything happen to the kit whilst it’s out on hire.

Keep your eyes on their  FacebookTwitter and Instagram to stay updated with KitMapper news. If you haven’t already, go ahead and checkout out our interview on their KitMapper Blog.

We’ve recently joined KitMapper and absolutely love the service and would like to let all our friends and clients know about it. Try it with a special discount using code MAKEITGREEN starting from 29th of September 2017

Best Air-Cleaning Plants, According to NASA

So it's a spring time and we are off to the gardening center so to get some more plants. Houseplants are awesome indoor air cleaners, but some of them are more effective than others at filtering out pollutants and toxic chemicals in the air. This infographic highlights the best air-filtering plants, according to a NASA study.

NASA researchers set out to find the best ways to clean the air in space stations. Their Clean Air study found the plants below are effective at removing benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene, xylene, and ammonia from the air—chemicals that have been linked to health effects like headaches and eye irritation.

There are other benefits to having these plants around, we’ve noted before, but the graphic below from Love the Garden shows you at a glance the plants that make the best natural air filters. NASA research suggests having at least one plant per 100 square feet of home or office space. (The Snake Plant or Mother-in-Law’s Tongue is pretty hardy, by the way, although not entirely unkillable.)

Product photography for Ecosophia

A little while back, we did a product packshot photography shoot for sustainable fashion brand Ecosophia. This lovely interiors brand specialise in organic, handwoven and naturally dyed textiles.  With an aim to connect the home to nature by honouring the earth, their products are made in a way that benefits farmers, textile producers, and the environment. We particularly like their beautiful botanical INDIGO SHIBORI QUILT, dyed using the shibori technique and stitched with traditional Bengali Kantha method. In the next few weeks, Ecosophia is launching a new collection of organic cotton bed linen, which you can check out at: www.ecosophia.co.uk

Coffee fix of the month - Organo Gold

It’s no secret that we’re partial to a good coffee here at Green Lens Studios. In fact, some might say it’s more akin to love… Our coffee fix of the month goes to Organo Gold – a delicious coffee made using ganoderma lucidum, a wonder mushroom from China. For centuries this herb has been revered for its therapeutic properties and rich antioxidants, and now we can enjoy its natural benefits along with a caffeine kick.

Lost Property London

Lost Property is an amazing accessories brand that is striving to limit their environmental impact. Their tactics are true to tradition and they utilize discarded and salvaged fabrics to create useful but unique accessories. This London based brand uses the finest fittings as apart of their production process. Also the company incorporates vegetable tanners rather than harsh chemical tanners for their items. We loved them shooting at Green Lens and can’t wait to see their newest Fall collection!

Bike Week 2015 Ride

Come What May, We're Riding All the Way!

To support this year’s Bike Week taking place 13-21st June, what better way is there for celebrating the joy of a bike ride than by cycling along with friends in a sunny afternoon?

We are, thus, organising a fun ride on the 14th of June, in a tradition of Green Lens' season bike ride up the Liver Lee to Broxbourne. Our aim is to promote everyday cycling and to help build on the momentum gained within the national-wide Bike Week campaign, where more than half a million will ride their bikes to increase awareness on the health, social and environmental benefits that this alternative means of transportation, brings about.

We will hop on our bikes at 12:00 am to reach the final destination at 3 pm. We will have a great opportunity of exploring St Augustine's Church near Broxbourne - a beautiful Grade 1 listed church with many fascinating stories from history and points of special interest - and enjoy a delicious picnic/pub lunch at the Crown Pub, after crossing the finish line.

Our meeting point, Green Lens Studios, located at 4a Atterbury Road, N4 1SF, will be opened from 11:00 am on the day to warmly welcome all of you, happy cyclists, who fancy joining us in this adventure.

We are taking our role as the first sustainable photographic studio in the UK seriously (fun) and we’d be thrilled having as many of you as possible embarking on a sustainable living as well! Cycling everyday is an easy way!

Check out our Facebook event to keep yourself in the loop with the latest details.

CARBON FOOTPRINTS EXHIBTION

On the 20th of November Green Lens Studios will be showing an exhibition by Jane Orrell. Carbon Footprints is a series of multimedia based drawing, print and film based works, made by Liverpool based artist Jane Orrell. Following a twenty year career in the healing arts of holistic massage and yoga practice she uses this experience to produce large-scale artworks.

Her work seeks to reconcile the spiritual with the human body form and the digital media. Inspired by meditation, the artwork 'becomes itself' as her practice unfolds. Her practice is underpinned by experimenting with the transient, be that in its controlled yogic forms or in a more abstract exploration into the mark making process.
