DATE: June 27th 2026
TIME: 12:30 - 2:30pm
We all have our own version of what a place feels like, based on our experiences of being somewhere. For instance, how it feels to walk down a street, the ways in which the things we see and hear in our everyday environments are entangled with memories, fantasies and fictions, etc. Unmapping is about embracing the inherent subjectivity of maps and attempting to make the intangible, tangible.
Through playful sensory drawing exercises, we will explore how the physical act of mark-making can help us to ‘tune-in’ to the world around us and take us on journeys into our memories and imagination. Working in pairs, we will explore the notion of the skin as a touch sensitive device and create map-based artwork inspired by personal experiences of place. This workshop is open to anyone interested in creating artworks inspired by place. No prior experience necessary, just willingness to try something new.
